Capacity Building

Nationwide workshops to reach out to history teachers in all the regions.

This project represents the second phase for the “Developing History Teachers Capacity to Foster Historical thinking” project implemented in 2014 – 2015.
The new project planned for the academic year 2015 – 2016 aims at reaching a wider and more diverse group of history teachers through a series of workshops focusing on historical thinking. The workshops will be conducted in Arabic and will be offered in different Lebanese regions.
The workshops will be carried out by a team of LAH members and a history teachers who have participated actively in phase 1. The team will facilitate workshops aiming at shifting history education from didactic approaches of memorizing a single narrative to disciplinary approaches to historical thinking.
The project aims at reaching history teachers around Lebanon by providing workshops in different regions as a way to reach out to them. This will accommodate a wider circle of teachers because close geographical proximity is believed to be an important factor that encourages teachers to participate in professional development activities. We aim at generating interest in disciplinary approaches to learning and encouraging teachers to explore classroom management techniques that will help build democratic classrooms where students engage in constructive and critical dialogues.
A detailed schedule of workshops and events will be posted later on our website.
