The Lebanese Association for History (LAH), in cooperation with the Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS), on 27-28 October 2018, held the second Workshop of the project “Enhancing the Skills of History Teachers in Lebanon”, in which the training team also participated in the Educational Center for Research and Development.
The Workshop had a team of trainers consisting the the LAH’s President Mrs. Nayla Hamadeh and Dr. Amin Elias and Dr. Maha Shuayb. On the first day, trainers sought to “collect honey” to prove the concepts gained in the first operator. Work was then initiated to design learning activities that promoted conceptual thinking. The participants worked in groups where they discussed the basics of designing the research questions and their characteristics. They then proceeded to design activities that dealt with three historical topics of their choice: the Phoenician alphabet, Alexander the Great, and the Second World War. The activities were to reinforce historical concepts such as causality, change and diversity.
The second day was applied with rich ideas by the teams that applied or presented the activities they designed. Through them, participants played a variety of roles as students, trainers and teachers. Participants also identified individual target profiles through history teaching, which will form the basis for the design of an integrated training program for history teachers.
In preparation for the third Workshop, the team split into three groups, each working with a facilitator to design a teacher program. The three workshops will be a ready-made training course that can be used to train all history teachers in Lebanon.
