What is the significance of history in general? What is the importance of teaching history? Why do we need to teach history in Lebanon? Why is discussing dealing with the past crucial? All these questions and more were discussed during two workshops that were conducted within the dealing with the past and memory of war program, in partnership with forumZFD (4, 5, 6 July and 24, 25, 26 July). The training included a diverse group of participants who worked in groups and showed a lot of enthusiasm and cooperation. This was an example of how history can be an interactive subject based on research, fact-finding and critical thinking, not a rigid subject based on one narrative but several narratives. Several concepts were put forward, including the concept of victimhood, violence, and reconciliation, in addition to the historical content that reinforces the importance of dealing with the past in order to achieve peace building and to better understand the present.
